Just wanted to give a little update. So far, 19 of the 100 posters have sold and this adds up to $380 for talented and deserving art students at Seton High School! AMAZING! And I have you to thank!

There are 81 more posters available for purchase. If all are sold, a total of $2,000 would be donated! Imagine how much that would help the art students or the department (details on how the money will be used specifically are still being worked out)! Thank you to everyone who has purchased a poster for themselves or as a gift. With the holidays coming up, please be sure to spread the word or purchase one as a gift for someone, whether it be a friend or a alumnae who had the pleasure of learning from Ben Price.

And to make supporting a little easier on the wallet, the price has been marked down to $35 per print (originally $40) and Thirsty is still going to donate $20 (the original 50%) of each sale!

This calendar speaks to anyone who knows someone suffering (or maybe they are themselves) from any incurable illness, including cancer. As most know, October is the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This calendar topic has been in mind since the very beginning of Thirsty. As I was developing the brand concept and message, I was trying to figure out how it could benefit others and not just be self-profitable or self-satisfying. When I came up with Thirsty for A Cure, a million ideas began to fill my mind, many of which I will carry out through Thirsty soon. And I hope that these items will be able to help support initiatives that target finding a cure.

I still cannot believe it’s been 10 years since the tragic event that shook the entire world. September’s calendar is in memory of the innocent lives lost and in honor of the heroes who stepped in harms way to save a life. As we reflect and move forward, let’s give strength to those who need it and come together as a nation stronger than ever before.

If you’re in the New York area, the 9/11 Memorial is open for visitors beginning September 12.

I shouldn’t proclaim that this is late, but when something is 25 days late, you should just own it. I’ve been quite busy lately as a freelance designer (which is fabulous) as well as doing boring things like house stuff, etc. Yes, some fun mixed in as well, but the fact is that I didn’t have barely a second in July or through most of August to work on this month’s desktop calendar. And it is what it is. BUT you do have a glorious six days to thoroughly enjoy this little beauty. And because I was late, I so generously create two versions, one plum and one orange-rust. Pick your fancy. I choose plum.

More than color options, the August calendar is all about the rights to an education and all that one can do and change in this world once educated. There are so many people who do not have this basic right available to them or the supplies and means necessary to take advantage of that right. Just something to think about as we haul ourselves or loved ones back to school this month.

Thirsty is going to donate 10% of all purchases through August 31 to a classroom project on DonorsChoose.org. If you’re interested in donating independently, the organization seems like a good one. You can find a project that interests you, donate to it and know exactly how your donation is helping students.

A lot has been happening lately, personally and professionally, causing me to think about how we communicate with one another today. While I use social media and texting daily, I blame it for taking away the personal level of communication that I feel helps to fuel the human mind, heart and soul. Everyone seems to live behind some sort of screen.

I admit, I am full-on guilty of not reaching out via telephone to plenty of people as often as I should which is why I’m writing this because I want to change that. But people are guilty in not reaching out to me as well. Life is not a one way street, folks. It takes two, at least, to communicate. And when we do all reach out to one another, it is usually when someone needs something (sorry mom, dad, etc…). It’s so rare to give or receive a phone call where there is no agenda, no topic other than to check in and see how life is going. I want to get back to that and I want others to as well. I think we’ll all be better for it. You don’t have to talk for hours on end, which I think is one reason why we text, post, etc. Because it’s fast. It delivers a message quickly without the time or commitment that comes with having a verbal conversation. Who has time to sit on the phone and catch up with the 10 most important people in your life on a weekly basis? No one. Well, maybe some people, but not me. But this is not a message about making time for long conversations. It’s about making time, period, even if it’s five minutes once every couple weeks. Better than nothing. And your relationships will strengthen because of it.

I don’t want to get completely into it, but the next time you are about to communicate about something important and meaningful (like birthdays, congratulations, etc), via social media or text to a person in your close personal life that you normally call, pick up the phone so they can hear your voice and keep the social media and texts as an added bonus.

Note: I never said I would never text again, who am I kidding, but not when I know someone would rather hear my wonderful voice.
